Timber framing for an extension roof beside brickwork

THE COMPLETE ROOF, CONSIDERED

Flat roofing. The details matter.

A considered roof build-up, from the supporting structure to drainage, insulation and the waterproof finish.

More than a waterproof surface

A flat roof needs an appropriate supporting structure, a suitable build-up and a way for water to leave the surface. Junctions with walls, roof edges and outlets are as important to the conversation as the visible finish.

Roof Construction Systems takes a whole-roof approach. Tell Harry whether you are planning new work or looking at an existing flat roof, and what you want the project to achieve.

Start with what is underneath

The condition of an existing deck and supporting timber can influence the proposed scope. Replacing a covering is not automatically the same job as rebuilding the roof beneath it.

Photographs can help explain a problem, but they cannot confirm the condition of concealed materials. An assessment is needed before the full work can be specified.

Insulation, falls and junctions

The insulation position, drainage arrangement and edge details should be considered together. The appropriate system depends on the construction and use of the space below.

Harry can discuss warm and cold roof build-ups as part of the project. The waterproofing product and construction details are selected as part of the agreed specification.

Useful questions for the first conversation

  • What is below the roof, and how is that space used?
  • Where does water drain at present?
  • Are there rooflights, wall junctions or other openings?
  • Is the work part of an extension or a replacement?
  • Are there known leaks or changes to the internal ceiling?

Plan the scope before choosing the finish

Share your postcode, drawings if you have them, and safe ground-level photographs. Harry can then discuss the next step and the information needed to prepare a proposal.

Any guarantee is specific to the qualifying system and work agreed. Confirm the duration, coverage and conditions before proceeding.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

Ask Harry.

Have a question about your own roof?
Ask Harry ↗

Which flat roof covering do you use?

The covering should be specified for the individual project. Ask Harry to explain the proposed system and why it suits the structure and intended use; no single product is promised here.

Can you look at a leaking flat roof?

Call a member of the team to describe the issue and check availability. The cause and extent of work need assessment; do not access the roof yourself to inspect it.
